Biography

David Hockney was born in Bradford, UK in 1937. He attended Bradford College of Art from 1953 to 1957 and went on to study at the Royal College of Art in London, already making a name for himself as a pioneer of British Pop Art by the time he graduated in 1962.
Moving to Los Angeles in 1964, Hockney was captivated by the carefree lifestyle of Southern California with its perpetual sunshine, palm trees, swimming pools, and attractive young men, all of which became leitmotifs of his art of the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
Later in his career, Hockney’s embraced more Naturalism in his art, citing Picasso as his strongest influence. He is currently making use of different technologies to produce art, such as copiers, fax machines, polaroids and, most recently, the Brushes ‘app’ for I-phone and I-pad. Hockney lives and works in Los Angeles to this day. He counts among the most versatile and influential British artist of the 20th and 21st century.
