Biography

Canadian artist Ron Bolt Born was born in 1938 in Toronto, where he attended the Ontario College of Art and the Royal Conservatory of Music. In 1986 he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and served as its President from 2000 to 2002. Bolt is a founding member of Visual Arts Ontario and recipient of the Canada 125 Medal in 1992, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2003, and the RCA’s Centennial Medallion in 2005. Influenced by abstraction early in his career, he later focused mainly on landscape painting. Bolt is especially known for his visually striking oil paintings of the ocean, executed in trompe l’oeil technique. He has exhibited extensively in Canada and abroad. Bolt’s artworks are held in numerous public and corporate collections including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, MacKenzie Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Peterborough.
